Simply Skin's Story

Brenna founded Simply Skin, an initiative working to redefine how teens understand their skin by expanding access to essential skincare and challenging harmful misconceptions surrounding acne, skin health, and self-confidence. Her group of 200+ student volunteers has worked to distribute nearly 25,000 teen-friendly skincare products—representing over $150,000 in retail value—to 3,000+ underserved teens across Florida, even reaching teens in Jamaica. Simply Skin highlights the often overlooked connection between acne, adolescent skin changes, and teen mental health, working to bridge gaps in access to basic skincare and reliable, skin health education. After facing immense challenges with acne and hormonal skin changes throughout middle and high school, Brenna knew she wanted to change the way teens experience their skin. Growing up on social media and transitioning into her teenage years, she became increasingly self-conscious, feeling like her acne did not match the “perfect” images she saw online and at school. She felt out of control, unable to understand why her skin was changing so rapidly or how to care for it, as she was met with countless conflicting opinions and expensive products that often did more harm than good. As she began researching the science behind skincare, she discovered that simple, gentle, and inexpensive products were often the most effective for sensitive, hormonal teen skin—yet there were few affordable or honest resources available to help teens understand this. At the same time, she recognized how acne was often portrayed as something “dirty” or “disgusting” in the media, reinforcing stigma around a condition that affects nearly 90% of teenagers. In a world of divide and disconnect, acne is one experience that so many teenagers share, yet it remains misunderstood and rarely discussed with honesty or compassion. Since founding Simply Skin in 2024, Brenna has worked to build partnerships with international skincare organizations like CeraVe and has secured an estimated $45,000 in donations from brands such as Cetaphil, Dove, and La Roche-Posay. Simply Skin has collaborated with 20+ organizations, including shelters and Title I schools.

Brenna's Skin Story

Growing up, my skin has always had a large impact on my confidence and overall well-being. When I started to transition into my teenaged years, I found myself, like many other teenagers, struggling with acne breakouts. Even though so many teenagers struggle with acne, I felt so isolated, hopeless, and embarrassed. After years of trying countless products, I realized that using clean and simple products worked the best for my skin. After taking a moment and talking to my friends and peers, I realized that almost everyone has skin insecurities that are affecting their physical and mental health; it just isn't talked about nearly enough. Using our own experiences and bonding over our own struggles, Bailey and I decided that we wanted to not only help educate other's about their skin, but also eliminate the stigma behind skin struggles because it is something normal for everyone.

Bailey's Skin Story

Since I can remember, I have experienced an array of skin conditions of varying severities. Particularly with eczema and acne, my skin insecurities have impacted the way I live and interact with others. Not wanting to go out when my skin purged, and feeling helpless to preventing breakouts, I felt alone in my struggles. It wasn't until I started to vocalize my worries to friends and family that I came to understand that almost everyone experiences "bad skin days." I recognized that taking care of myself, and using simple, clean products, had the best results for me. Brenna and I decided that we wanted to aid others, especially considering just how expensive the skin care industry can be, because everyone deserves to feel healthy and confident in their skin!
